Management Accountant

Reports to: Head of Finance

Salary: £42,000 – £50,000 depending on experience

Hours: 40 p/w

Location: Harrogate (3 days in office, 2 days from home)

Job Description

Experienced and technically excellent the Management Accountant leads the preparing, examining, and analysing of financial reports for MYSHON, its sister companies and key clients. Creating robust financial practices that ensure the Financial Services function achieves submission deadlines to key stakeholders such as clients and landlords, Board, and other internal stakeholders while maintaining accuracy.

This position requires strong financial accounting, systems, and process skills, with experience of preparing and presenting management accounts internal and externally required. The ideal candidate will also be experienced in statutory requirements, including Tax, VAT, and cash management. We are recruiting for two positions, one of which will also have direct line management of an Assistant Management Accountant who help prepare the financial accounts.

The Financial Services team all interact daily with overlap across roles leading to this role being varied and an opportunity to gain experience in a variety of Finance areas. This is a well functioning and friendly team, with strong growth and improvement plans for 2024 and beyond. This role is a new role created off the back of significant growth.

This is a hybrid working role split between our HG2 office and home.

Key Responsibilities

• Production of client management accounts including P&L, Balance Sheet, and Cash Flow with supporting schedules.
• Leading on year-end audit of accounts.
• Drive automation of Financial Services processes.
• Lead the completion of monthly bank, tax, client account and inter-ledger reconciliations in line with deadlines.
• Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual reporting.
• Ensuring posting of monthly results in the ledger, creating strong controls and governance that eradicate errors.
• Striving for faster financial closing to maximise the time available to provide insight and value add analysis and commentary while meeting deadlines.
• Developing appropriate policies, procedures and identifying opportunities to improve and streamline processes.
• Responsible for ensuring finance systems are compliant, efficient, and fit for business purpose.
• Monthly balance sheet reconciliations.
• Work with Head of Finance on Board Reports, management fee calculations, landlord statements, and budgets preparation and uploads.

Skills

• Qualified Accountant with 1 year’s PQE. Finalists with relevant work experience also considered.
• Advanced knowledge of MS Excel and accounting software packages (Microsoft Navision and Power BI would be an advantage).
• Experience of implementing automation and committed to continuously looking to improve processes.
• Solid knowledge of accounting standards and technically excellent.
• Effective and persuasive oral and written communications skills to develop strong relationships built on trust.
• Advanced problem solving and analytical skills that are flexible and adaptable to a variety of situations.
• An eye for detail being able to not only spot errors but seeing where things could be improved.
• Ability to successfully handle several priorities simultaneously, maintain composure in high pressure situations and maintain objectivity, focus, resilience, and good judgment.
• Commercial awareness and desire to understand how the company operates, who its key stakeholders are, and how Financial Services can deliver the most value.
• Able to develop and maintain effective relationships throughout all levels of the organisation. Strong Customer Service skills and problem resolution skills.
• Experience of financial reporting in an SME advantageous but not essential.
